IPCA Innovation Centres

IPCA Innovation Centres are physical places and spaces that foster IPCA innovation and give life to the ideas that will shape the future of nature conservation in Canada and around the world.

The ecology and geopolitics vary widely across Canada, as does the culture and needs of nations. This reality informs our strategy of establishing regional IPCA Innovation Centres in sub regions of the country. The first of these regional IPCA Innovation Centres is being developed on the Pacific West Coast of Canada.

IPCA Innovation Centres are legacy outcome of the Conservation Through Reconciliation Partnership.

IPCA Knowledge Basket

An online space to learn and share knowledge about IPCAs

The IPCA Knowledge Basket launched in June of 2022 as a legacy outcome of the Conservation through Reconciliation Partnership (CRP).

Holding stories, videos, songs, government reports and policies, academic articles, resources, and artwork, the IPCA Knowledge Basket represents the strength and beauty we can create by weaving multiple knowledge systems together. By providing opportunities to harvest, collect, and contribute resources, the IPCA Knowledge Basket aims to honour, celebrate, and catalyze Indigenous-led conservation pathways in Canada, including Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs).

The Clayoquot Campus is a 10 acre oceanfront space in Tla-o-qui-aht territory, Tofino BC. The Campus is home to the IISAAK Learning Lodge, the Naa’Waya’Sum Gardens and the Little Costa Rica Café.

The IISAAK Learning Lodge is an educational space that includes accommodation for those participating in on-site classes and programs.

If you or your organization is interested in hosting educational programs related to Indigenous-led conservation, please get in touch below to inquire about availability.

The first post secondary program focused on IPCAs

The IPCA Planning Certificate is a collaboration with the IISAAK OLAM Foundation, and the Vancouver Island University.

This is the first post-secondary program specializing in planning for Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas. The goal of the certificate is to train the next generation of professional planners and build capacity to support the establishment, management, and governance of IPCAs in British Columbia and across Canada.

Westcoast IPCA Ambassadors Program

We are inviting First Nations people ages 18-35 along the west coast of BC to participate in a special and unique program. This program is about giving you the tools to bring attention to the issues that matter to you and your Nation. Those that are selected will take part in a series of on-the-land and virtual experiences and workshops starting in the summer of 2023. All expenses paid for selected participants.
